NEW DELHI: Even after stepping away from Test and T20I cricket, Virat Kohli’s legacy continues to grow. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday updated Kohli’s all-time T20I rating to 909 points, making him the first-ever batter in cricket history to cross the 900-point mark across all three formats — Tests, ODIs, and T20Is — in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings.
Kohli, who retired from T20Is after his match-winning 76 in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup final, had previously held a career-best T20I rating of 897. The ICC’s latest update, reported by Wisden, revises that figure to 909, putting him among the elite in T20I history — behind only Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Dawid Malan (919) on the all-time T20I rankings list.

In Tests, Kohli’s highest rating stands at 937 points, achieved during the 2018 tour of England, where he amassed 593 runs in 10 innings with two centuries and three half-centuries — a lone bright spot for India in a tough series. His Test peak remains the highest ever for an Indian batter and ranks 11th overall in Test history.
In ODIs, Kohli reached a career-high 909 points during the 2018 England tour, scoring 191 runs in three matches, including two fifties. At one point, Kohli held the rare distinction of being the ICC’s No.1 ranked batter simultaneously in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is — a feat few have matched.
This latest record burnishes Kohli’s status as perhaps the finest all-format batter the game has seen.
Kohli’s Career Highlights:
-
T20Is: 4,188 runs in 125 matches at 48.69 average, with 1 century and 25 fifties.
-
Tests: 9,230 runs in 113 Tests at 46.85 average, with 30 centuries and a best of 254*.
-
ODIs (Active): 14,181 runs in 302 matches at 57.88 average, with 51 centuries — second-most for India and third-highest overall.

Kohli retired from Test cricket earlier this year ahead of the new ICC World Test Championship cycle after a difficult Australia tour, where he managed only 190 runs in nine innings. Despite this, he bowed out as India’s fourth-highest Test scorer and 19th overall in world cricket.
In ODIs, he remains an active force, recently leading India’s successful ICC Champions Trophy campaign, where he scored 218 runs in five matches, including a century against Pakistan.
Across all formats, Kohli has amassed 27,599 international runs at an average of 52.27, with 82 centuries and 143 fifties — ranking third overall in global cricket history and second for India, only behind Sachin Tendulkar.
