New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly criticized the BJP-led Delhi government over rising electricity costs, prolonged power cuts, and unfulfilled promises, accusing it of burdening citizens with increased charges and unreliable power supply.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj targeted the BJP for its recent 10.5% hike in Power Purchase Adjustment Charges (PPAC), contrasting it with the party’s earlier criticism of an 8% PPAC increase under the previous AAP government. He questioned why the BJP, which had labeled the previous hike as “theft,” was now imposing a higher charge.
Bharadwaj also highlighted BJP’s unfulfilled promise to remove pension charges from electricity bills, which continue to add an 8% burden on consumers. He demanded clarity on when the BJP government would act on its commitment.
Additionally, the AAP leader raised concerns over worsening power outages in Delhi, citing instances of 14-hour blackouts in areas like Chhatarpur and Greater Kailash. He noted that residents, who had not needed inverters for a decade, were now forced to install them due to unreliable electricity supply.
The AAP’s criticism comes amid growing public frustration over rising costs and deteriorating infrastructure under the new BJP administration. The party has called for immediate action to address power supply issues and roll back unjustified charges.
The BJP is yet to respond to these allegations.
