New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik in a corruption case related to the Kiru Hydro Electric Project. Along with Malik, two of his private secretaries and four others have also been named as accused.
According to the agency, the case pertains to alleged corruption in the Kiru Hydroelectric Project during Malik’s tenure as Governor. The CBI began investigating the matter in April 2022 after Malik publicly alleged in several interviews and events that corruption had occurred in the project.
Satya Pal Malik claimed that he was offered a bribe for approving the project while serving as Governor. He stated that one of his secretaries informed him that each file could bring Rs 150 crore, totaling Rs 300 crore for two files.
Based on these revelations, the CBI registered a case on April 20, 2022, against Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt. Ltd., a private company, and some unknown individuals. The investigation later found irregularities in the tendering process of the project, eventually leading to Malik’s involvement in the probe.
Malik has remained vocal, questioning how the whistleblower could become the subject of investigation, while no action is taken against those he accused.
