A suspected IED blast along the LoC in Akhnoor killed two Army personnel, including a Captain, during patrol.

SRINAGAR: In a tragic incident along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector, a suspected explosive device detonated during a routine border patrol, claiming the lives of two Army personnel, including a Captain.

A spokesperson for the White Knight Corps confirmed that the blast occurred in the Laleali area while soldiers were patrolling near the border fence.

Security forces have since cordoned off the area, and intensive search operations are underway to rule out further threats.

“The braveheart soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice while securing our borders,” the Army stated, paying solemn tribute to the fallen personnel.

This incident follows another attack yesterday in Rajouri, where a soldier was critically wounded by gunfire while manning a forward post in the Kalal sector of Nowshera.

Preliminary reports suggest that the gunfire originated from across the LoC around 2:40 p.m. The injured soldier was rushed to a military hospital for treatment.

Just a few days earlier, on February 8, an Army patrol came under attack in the Keri sector, where terrorists seemingly awaiting an opportunity to infiltrate, opened fire from across the LoC.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on February 5, chaired a high-level security meeting in New Delhi, reviewing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

He directed security agencies to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against infiltration and intensify counter-terrorism operations.

In 2024, terrorism claimed 44 lives in Jammu, including 18 security personnel, with attacks spreading from border districts like Rajouri and Poonch to other vulnerable regions.

In response, forces have ramped up night patrols in border villages and intensified search operations in dense forests, aiming to thwart infiltration attempts and prevent terrorist activity.
