NEW DELHI: Bollywood actress and outspoken political commentator Swara Bhaskar has once again made headlines after her X (formerly Twitter) account was permanently suspended for allegedly violating copyright rules. The suspension was reportedly due to two images shared on her account, one of which sparked significant controversy.
The images in question included a well-known protest slogan in Hindi: “Gandhi, we are ashamed; your killers are still alive.”
The other image featured a picture of Bhaskar’s child, waving the Indian flag on Republic Day with their face concealed. Bhaskar has expressed disbelief over the suspension, questioning how such posts could be considered copyright violations.

In an Instagram post responding to the ban, Bhaskar called the decision “ridiculous and untenable” and suggested that the suspension might have been the result of a mass reporting campaign aimed at silencing her.

She expressed concern over the violation of her freedom of speech and urged X to reconsider its decision. Bhaskar’s post read, “If these tweets have been mass reported, it is an effort to harass me and suppress my freedom of speech and expression.”

Her statement pointed to a larger issue of censorship, with the actress implying that the suspension was politically motivated, especially considering the contentious nature of the images in question.
This incident is not the first time Bhaskar has faced criticism for her outspoken views. Earlier in November 2024, she raised questions about the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the Maharashtra Elections, accusing them of manipulation.

Her followers and critics alike are watching closely, as this incident could have significant implications for content moderation and political discourse on social media platforms.
